Jesus said that he has come that you might have life and have it more abundantly. Jesus here is showing that he is 2 sides of the same coin…. that if you got the coin – you have both heads and tails – you don’t have to choose. Why do we think we have to choose?

He is eternal life: The way to heaven

He is abundant life: the way to bring heaven to earth.

I love that jesus is both … and! Have you every made up a dumb dichotomy. You can either be rich or happy, or you can’t have your cake and eat it? well why now have both! Jesus is saying I don’t just want you to be Holy, I actually want you to be happy. I love the look on my kids face when they come to negotiating whether they can have mango or Chocolate for dessert. And early on I used to make them choose so they wouldn’t overeat – and also because magos are seriously expensice – especially after they would devour 3 avocados with dinner. And inevitaely Jeremiah would choose the choclate and Hosannah the mangos. However ever now and again I would love to trash thier theology by asking – “who said you have to choose?” I am daddy and I own it all – so today you can have both.

Oh the joy to see them smile at the abundance. Of course they are still too young to realise that it happens every 2nd wednseday – pay day – when daddy is feeling a lot more generous. And I reckon God is the same in Heaven, where he sits there smiling at his ability to give us the desires of our heart – the fullness of LIFE! Unlike me however he doens’t have a pay day – He is the pay day.

Today why not accept the invitation to get Jesus who is our payday of life in all its fullness: health, happiness, joy, love, peaced-of min, kindness, wisdom. Which one do you want? Why choose when you can have it all!
